The Andromeda, a Constitution Class starship, had been refitted with Kelvan technology in an experiment, Code Named "Pandora's Box". Initially, the propulsion experiment was a success, showing that Warp 11 could be attained. It seemed the Pandora's Box would easily be able to stand the stresses of such high Warp Factors. A new coolant system had been installed using an experimental compound that approached absolute zero. Failure of the coolant system resulted in Torn's being frozen, the resulting overheated warp engines exploded destroying the shp and killing the crew.
