Zero-point energy implies a continuous spontaneous generation and mutual annihilation of elementary particles (or energy). This quantum effect is a consequence of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. Such fluctuations even occur in a perfect vacuum that is shielded against any form of radiation. Since the overall energy of the system remains zero, energy conservation is not violated.   π
