(|Nadion|)
Subatomic particle associated with high-speed interactions within atomic nuclei. Nadion emissions accompany the discharge of a phaser beam.

(|Nanites|)
Nanotechnical devices developed by the Federation to work in microscopic environments, for instance on a cellular level in a human body. In 2366, nanites were discovered to have developed a consciousness.

(|Nanoprobes|)
Microscopic devices that are programmed to convert (assimilate) a living organism to a Borg drone. Once injected to the blood stream, the nanoprobes take control of the organism and form the first Borg implants.

(|Nanotechnology|)
Branch of engineering involving the design of microscopic machines on scales as small as nanometers (billionths of a meter). Such tools include tiny robots known as nanites.

(|Navigational deflector|)
Device that deflects potential obstacles in a starship's flight path. The deflector dish usually produces a low-power static field for deflecting submicron particles and a concentrated main beam that pushes aside larger objects thousands of kilometers ahead of the ship. Deflector beams are indispensable at warp speed, for already a submicron particle could penetrate and damage the hull.

(|Neosorium composite|)
MAterial used in the construction of Federation replicators.

(|Neural calipers|)
Medical instrument used in surgical procedures.

(|Neural modulator|)
Medical device that can be used to relieve minor muscle pains.

(|Neural stimulator|)
Medical instrument to increase neural activity in the central nervous system of a humanoid brain.

(|Neural transponder|)
Device used to link Borg drones through processors implanted in their nervous systems. Neural transponders allow members of the Borg Collective to share neural energy.

(|Neuro-electrical suppresser|)
Medical instrument used to suppress pain.

(|Neurocortical monitor|)
Small medical sensor device which can be placed on a patient's forehead to record encephalographic data. A neurocortical monitor can also be configured to notify medical personnel when preprogrammed readings are detected.

(|Neurode|)
In bio-neural circuitry technology, the connection between a bio-neural gel pack and external components.

(|Neuroprocessor|)
Central memory component contained in every Borg. The neuroprocessor contains a record of all the instructions received from the Collective.

(|Neutrino|)
Massless subatomic particle that has no electrical charge. Neutrinos were first detected by Earth scientists in 1956.
A major source of neutrinos are nuclear reactions deep within stars, neutrinos are also found in a starship's warp signature.
Standard Starfleet tricorders are not equipped to detect neutrinos.

(|Neutron fatigue|)
A breakdown of nuclear cohesion in a structure.

(|Nexus|)
Nonlinear temporal continuum in which reality appears to reshape itself in fulfillment of a person's innermost wishes. The gateway to the nexus is an energy ribbon, a temporal flux phenomenon that crosses this galaxy every 39 years. The first known contact with the nexus was in 2293, when the enrgy ribbon crossed the flight path of two El-Aurian refugee ships in the Sol sector.

(|Nitrium|)
A metal alloy, used in the construction of Federation starships.

(|Nomad|)
The probe Nomad, as it appeared when it was discovered by the U.S.S. Enterprise in 2265.Nomad was an Earth probe launched in the mid 21st century. It was registered as destroyed. On Stardate 3541, the U.S.S. Enterprise discovered Nomad while investigating a distress signal from the Malurian system. Nomad attacked, and the U.S.S. Enterprise was hit by a bolt of energy equivalent to 90 photon torpedoes – the bolt traveled at warp 15. They discovered that Nomad destroyed the Malurian race. Nomad was 500 kg, roughly cylindrical, and its length was 1 meter. It sent the U.S.S. Enterprise a mathematical message, in a type of binary, extremely sophisticated, compressed, carrying several channels at once. It had a protective screen, which prevented scans. It's power source changed at some point and when discovered by the U.S.S. Enterprise it had a perpetual power source. NOMAD called Captain Kirk the creator. In reality, Nomad's creator was Jackson Roykirk. Nomad's damaged databanks led him to confuse Kirk for Roykirk. Nomad claimed its function was to probe for biological infestations and destroy what was not perfect. It was discovered that Nomad was damaged in a meteor collision. Nomad's original purpose was to be the first interstellar probe to seek out new life forms. After the collision it sought only perfect life forms and eradicates others. Nomad wiped Uhura's mind, and killed Scotty. He 'repaired' Scotty, but was unable to repair Uhura. Nomad could receive information faster than the Enterprise's computer could give it. Spock performed a mind meld with Nomad. Spock learned that after the collision, most of Nomad's memory banks were destroyed. Nomad wandered without purpose. Then it met an alien probe of great power, it called it the Other. Its real name was Tan Ru. Somehow they merged and repaired each other, becoming one. The other was programmed to secure and sterilize soil samples from other planets. Nomad planned to return to Earth. In order to prevent this, Captain Kirk pointed out Nomad's errors, and Nomad destroyed itself when it realized it was imperfect. (TOS: The Changeling)

(|Nuclear propulsion units|)
The Elasians use nuclear propulsion units. They are slower than impulse drive. (TOS: Elaan of Troyius)

(|Nullifier core|)
Major component of the propulsion system on a Romulan warbird. The nullifier cores must be maintained in precise alignment to avoid magnetic disruptions that can be detected when the ship is cloaked.
