First Contact between Earth and Vulcan.
|

History |
The United Federation of Planets (UFP) is an interstellar alliance of planets and colonies, founded in 2161. It promotes mutual trade, exploration, scientific, cultural, diplomatic and defensive interests. The five founding members of the Federation were Vulcan, Earth, Andoria, Alpha Centauri and Tellar. By 2373, there were more than 150 member planets spread over eight thousand light years. Nearly half of all Federation citizens live in colonies.
The planet Castal I was the site of a conflict between Talarian and the Federation in the 2350s. The Galen border conflicts with the Federation occured in the 2350s over the Galen system, in which Federation colonies had been established. The conflicts reached a peak in 2356 in the Talarian attack on Galen IV, after which a peace accord was reached.
In the mid 24th century, the UFP was involved in an extended conflict with the Cardassians. A truce was reached in 2366, but it was violated by Captain Benjamin Maxwell. His actions were illegal even though his suspicions about the Cardassians proved true. A peace treaty was reached in 2367, negotiated in part by Captain Edward Jellico. One clause of the treaty states that captives of either government would be allowed to see a representative from a neutral government during their incarceration. After three years of negotiations, in 2370, a treaty established the Demilitarized Zone, or DMZ, a buffer zone along the border of the Federation and Cardassian space. Neither side is allowed to place military outposts, conduct fleet exercizes, or station warships anywhere in the DMZ. Some borders were redrawn, placing some Federation colonies in Cardassian space, and vice versa. Federation colonists banded together to form the Maquis, a terrorist organization to fight Cardassian rule.
The Jem'Hadar killed the Bajoran colonists on New Bajor for violating their territory in 2370, along with several Federation ships in the Gamma Quadrant. Travel through the wormhole was suspended until the USS Odyssey could assess the threat. The USS Odyssey was subsequently destroyed while on it's mission.
In 2371, the Romulans agreed to grant the Federation use of a single cloaking device for use in the Gamma Quadrant only in exchange for all intelligence reports on the Dominion. |
Technology |
| Mercassium compound is a synthetic composite used in shield generator construction by the Federation. That technology is not shared with anyone. |
Federation Government |
Earth is the Federation's base of operations, and Paris is the capital. The Federation Council is a the governing body of the United Federation of Planets. It consists of representatives from the Federation's member planets. The Council Chambers are located in San Francisco on Earth. Membership in the council is considered a great honor, and T'Pau of Vulcan is the only person to have refused a seat on the council. The council is lead by the Federation President.
The Federation Naval Patrol is the Federation's version of the Coast Guard. The Federation Archaeology Council is an organization of archaeologists, that holds symposiums. The Federation Astronomical Committee is whose responsibilities includes naming celestial objects. The Federation Astrophysical Survey maintains current and accurate celestial navigation charts. The Federation Department of Temporal Investigations is a governmental agency that assesses potential damage to the time line caused by time travellers. The Federation Science Council is a government agency that advises the Federation on scientific matters. |
Federation Law |
| The Federation Code of Justice is a set of laws that include provisions insuring that a defendant is innocent until proven guilty, and if innocent, will be set free. The Federation Grand Jury is a panel of citizens that determined if the evidence in criminal cases was sufficient to warrant an indictment. There is a Federation Penal Settlement located in New Zealand on Earth. The Federation Supreme Court is the highest judicial body in the Federation. |

Benecia Colony: The Karidian Company of Players was scheduled to perform here following their trip to Planet Q in 2266. Benecia Colony's medical facilities were limited in 2269, when Dr. Janice Lester, who had taken control Captain Kirk's body planned to send her former body there.
Bersallis III: There were 643 colonists living on Bersallis III in 2369. The planet is subjected to fierce firestorms every seven years. The firestorms are caused by particle emission from the system's sun. The storms can get as hot as 300 degrees Centigrade, and the wind can be over 200 kilometers per hour. In 2369, The USS Enterprise-D assisted in evacuating the colony. All colonists were saved, but eight Enterprise crew members were killed.
Beta Agni II: A Class-M planet that experienced a tricyanate contamination of it's water supply in 2366. The contamination was neutralized by hytritium obtained with the assistance of the USS Enterprise-D, who delivered hytritium to the water supply by way of a class-4 probe. The contamination was part of a plot by the Zibalian Kivas Fajo to capture Data.
Blue Horizon: This planet was terraformed by Gideon Seyetik. DaVinci falls are located there. The falls are the height of Mount Everest and the water falls through continuous rainbows into an ocean the color of sapphire wine. Seyetik called them Blue Horizon's crowning glory.
Boradis III: The first outpost in this system was established here in 2331. By 2365, three other planets in the system were colonized. The population of Boradis III was infected with a plague that cost thousands of lives. The pathogen was found by Dr. Julian Bashir, and the entire population was inoculated.

It was patterned after the Scottish Highlands, and each building contained a cornerstone from Scottish building. Felisa Howard, grandmother to Beverly Crusher lived there. In 2370, the colony experienced problems with it's weather control matrix, and requested assistance from the USS Enterprise-D, which was already in orbit of the colony.
Cestus III: The Location of a Federation outpost that was destroyed by the Gorn in 2267. The Federation was unaware that the planet was part of Gorn territory. An agreement was achieved, and the planet was resettled by the Federation. In 2371, colonists there formed a league of six baseball teams, two of which were the Cestus Comets, and the Pike City Pioneers. The colony is eight weeks from Bajor at maximum warp.
