Playable: With approval
Kes, an Ocampa Woman
Kes, an Ocampa Woman
Ocampa.
Ocampa.
(| Physiology |)
The Ocampa have unusually shaped, pointed ears. The Ocampa have a life span of 9 years. They have underdeveloped telepathic powers, and latent psychokinetic powers. Some Ocampa with help from the Nacene, have developed these powers and increased their lifespan to 20 years. The morilogium is the final phase of Ocampan life.

Ocampan females between the age of four and five undergo the elogium, when the body prepares itself for fertilization. During the elogium a mitral sac (a pouch like structure) develops on the female's back in which the fetus is carried. The Ipasaphor, a sticky yellow substance appears on the palm of the female's hands, signaling the beginning of the 6 day mating period. If mating does not commence within 52 hours of the ipasaphor's appearance, conception will not be successful. Early elogium can be caused by increased levels of electrophoretic activity in an atmosphere.
(| History |)
Ocampa is located near Kazon space in the Delta Quadrant. It is the 5th planet in the Ocampa System, and it's surface is a desert. The planet is also has rich deposits of cormaline, a mineral mined by the Kazon-Ogla.

Ocampa communicate telepathically as well as verbally. Legend has it that the ancient Ocampa possessed even more extraordinary telepathic and mental powers. Ocampa civilization was nearly destroyed 1000 years ago, when their planet suffered a major ecological catastrophe, accidentally triggered by intergalactic explorers called the Nacene. The explorers accepted responsibility for this disaster and left two of their kind behind to care for the Ocampa people. One, who became know as the Caretaker, created a subterranean city for the Ocampa. For over 500 Ocampa generations, the Caretaker provided power for the city from his space borne Array, while protecting the Ocampa from intruders like the Kazon-Ogla.

In 2072, Suspiria, the Caretaker's mate, took 2000 Ocampans with her to a second Array, where she helped them develop their latent psychokinetic powers and increase their life span. The Caretaker died in 2371, at which time the Ocampa had enough power to provide for them until 2376.
(| Society |)
The Ocampa bury their dead beneath the soil and believe that their 'comra' or spirit is released into the afterlife.
(| New Info |)
Ocampans choose a mate for life. There is no distrust, no jealousy, no envy, and no betrayal. (VOY: Parturition)

Before Ocampans begin the mating process the female has to go through a ritual called the rolisisin. One of her parents massages her feet until her tongue begins to swell. It takes about an hour. The stimulation to the sympathetic nerves sets off a hormonal reaction, which activates glandular activity in the tissues of the tongue. It’s a time when a parent and child move into a new kind of relationship. As the child has a child, the parent must acknowledge her true adulthood. (VOY: Elogium)
